The College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) at Tongji University is one of the earliest Chinese institutions for environmental higher education and research. CESE was dedicated to the search for innovative solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development. With renowned strength in environmental research and education, the college has established itself at China’s leading institution in the field. The latest evaluation by China’s Ministry of Education ranked CESE as one of the three A+ institutions in environmental science and engineering and in 2017 it was selected into the national ‘Double First-Class’ project. The Environmental science and engineering major ranks 36th in the world from the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
Environmental Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary major, aiming at environmental pollution and ecological damage problems in China, focusing on the major needs of social and economic sustainable development, including the following research areas: Environmental Pollution Chemistry, Environmental Pollution Ecology, Water Pollution Control Theory and Technology, Solid Waste Treatment and Recycling, Environmental Restoration and Watershed Pollution Control, Air Pollution Control and Source Reduction, Environmental Planning and Management.
