The China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) is a “Project 211” university-a government honor bestowed upon China's finest institutions of higher education. CUPL is well known for its legal studies and also enjoys a distinguished reputation in arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, and education. Under the supervision of the State Ministry of Education, CUPL is located in Beijing on two campuses: the Xueyuan Lu campus in Haidian District and the Fuxue Lu campus in Changping District.
The university collaborates with 225 distinguished universities and institutions in 48 countries and regions. Each year, hundreds of teachers and students are sent abroad as part of international exchange and study programs. Each year,hundreds of internationally renowned scholars are invited to teach or give lectures at CUPL.The CUPL China-EU School of Law (CESL), which was founded in 2008, is the largest comprehensive joint program in legal education between the Chinese Government and the EU.
With the development of CESL,an elite program for cultivating international-oriented legal talents has taken shape.Since 2009, CUPL has developed full strategy for internationalization to consistently enhance its school-running. In 2012, CUPL has co-established a Confucius Institute (CI) with the Bangor University, followed by two other Confucius Institutes with the University of Bucharest, Romania in 2013 and the University of the West Indies, Barbados in 2015 respectively, namely Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest and Confucius Institute at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies.
