Introduction

The School of Life Sciences has established a strong team at high academic level for teaching and scientific research in the course of long-term construction and development. The School has a batch of professors and academic leaders who enjoy high prestige at home and abroad including 38 professors and 24 associate professors who have organized more than 250 research projects financed by such plans“973”, “863” and Natural Science Funds. and the teachers have published more than 670 papers with NENU as the first authors on Chinese and foreign academic journals among which 480 are international index papers like SCI. Moreover, teachers have cooperated with international research units and published as first authors on high-level academic journals including “Nature Cell Biology”, “Cancer Cell”,“J. Cell Biol.”“Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA”. Within five years, the teachers have been authorized for more than 50 national patents and published 25 textbooks and monographs.

The Cell Biology and Ecology are listed as national key disciplines and Grassland Ecology and Cell Biology belong to national “211 Project” priority disciplines. The School has many national key laboratories and provincial key laboratories, such as National Engineering Laboratory for Druggable Gene and Protein Screening, National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center of Biology, Central Laboratory of General Biology, Key Laboratory of Molecular Epigenetics, Key Laboratory of Vegetation Ecology, Jilin Province Key Laboratory for Chemistry and Biology of Natural Drugs in Changbai Mountain, Jilin Province Test Center of Industrial Production of Active Components from Plants and Animals. The School has set up the Center for Biology Post-doctoral Studies.

In 2008, with the support of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Ministry of Education and China Scholarship Council, NENU opened the Master Degree English-taught Program at the School of Life Sciences and added the Doctoral Degree English-taught Program in 2014.
